Phrasal Verbs for Describing Peoples Habits

Have you ever lived with a roommate or housemate? It can be quite a dreadful experience. There are occasions when roommates can tolerate each other’s behavior or, in fact, be so much alike they’re practically twins. In this lesson, you’ll read and listen to a man talk about his roommate’s behavior. This activity will focus on native expression and phrasal verbs that will help English learners speak more naturally.

How to effectively complete this exercise.
1. Listen or read the dialogue in full. It’s okay if you do not understand everything.
2. Listen again and focus on the context in which they use each bold expression and phrasal verb. Try to understand the meaning as best you can. No translator.
3. Complete the gap-fill exercise. Use the text and pay attention to how the phrasal verbs and expressions are used to help you complete this activity.
5. Match the definition to the expression.
6. Listen one more for a complete understanding of the text.

I’ve been living with Jordan for six months, and It’s been a really interesting time. I’m not saying it’s bad, just interesting. I’ve never lived with anyone before and really didn’t know what to expect. We have our ups and downs, but he’s a good guy. He’s a very organized person. In his eyes, everything has a place. I’ll often come home and see him tidying up the apartment. It’s great that he likes a clean apartment, but I feel bad that he’s always doing this. I feel like I’m not doing my fair share of the work. But what am I supposed to do if he’s always cleaning?
You’d think someone as serious as him about cleanliness would have a tame social life. Not Jordan. My guy loves to party. Actually, this is one of the things that really gets on my nerves. He always has company over every weekend, and I don’t mean one or two people. Two weeks ago, he basically threw a mini-house party. He also waits until the last minute to tell me people are coming over. But at this point, I should expect it, right? I get that he also pays rent, but he should take into account that I don’t want twenty people in my apartment every weekend. I’ve spoken to him about it over and over again, but he just changes the subject every time.
Now that I have really thought about it, I’m not happy with my living conditions. I think I’ll search for a new place and live on my own again.
