Last month, someone new moved in next door, and I decided to go over and introduce myself. I always think it’s important to break the ice when someone new joins the neighborhood.

As soon as I knocked on the door, he opened it with a big smile. We started talking, and it didn’t take long to realize we had a lot in common. We’re both science teachers—and even more surprising, he’s going to be working at my school starting this fall!

We really get along well. He’s easy to talk to, funny, and has a lot of interesting stories. Since he’s new to town, he asked me what people do around here for fun. I told him there are a few good places to get out and about, like a local jazz café, a weekend market, and a hiking trail just outside the city.

Yesterday, he didn’t have his car yet, so I gave him a lift to school so he could meet some of the staff and check out the building. It’s nice having a neighbor I can chat with—and even better that we’ll be working together. I have a feeling we’ll be good friends for a long time.
