Sam has a red kitekite · a toy that flies in the sky on a long line. It is his favorite toy. Today the sky is blue. The windwind · air that moves outside is strong. Sam runs to the park. He wants to fly his kite.
Sam holds the stringstring · a long, thin line that you hold. The kite goes up. It goes up high. Sam smiles. He is happy. The red kite dances in the sky.
Then the wind pulls hard. The string breaks. Oh no! The kite flies away. It lands in a big treetree · a big plant with branches and leaves. Sam looks up. The kite is very high. Sam is sad.
A girl walks to Sam. Her name is Mia. She lives next door.
“What is wrong?” Mia asks.
“My kite is in the tree,” Sam says. “I can't reach it.”
“Don't worry,” Mia says. “I'll help you.”
Mia looks at the tree. “I have an idea,” she says. “Let's use a long stickstick · a long, thin piece of wood.”
Sam finds a stick on the ground. He gives it to Mia. Mia is tall. She lifts the stick. She pushes the kite. The kite moves a little. Then it falls down. Sam catchescatch · to take something with your hands when it moves it!
“Thank you, Mia!” Sam says. He is so happy.
“You're welcome,” Mia says. She smiles.
Now Sam has an idea too. “Can you fly the kite with me?” he asks.
“Yes!” Mia says.
The two friendsfriend · a person you like and play with run in the park. The red kite goes up again. It dances in the blue sky. Sam holds the string. Mia laughs.
The wind is soft now. The kite stays high. Sam and Mia are happy. They have a new game and a new friend.
The sun goes down. The sky is pink. They walk home together. “See you tomorrow,” Sam says. “Tomorrow we fly again!”
